The future of Foods is bright and big and better than ever. Never before in History have humans stood a better chance of getting all the vitamins and nutrients we need than right now.
Most of us are taking multivitamins and supplements because we are educated enough to know that our diets don’t come close the meeting our nutritional needs. We do so, with a frustrated shoulder shrug because we know that this isn’t exactly the remedy we were looking for. We know that the old fashion way is really better. Studies have proven that our bodies just do better when we get the essentials from the real thing rather than a capsule.
Today researchers are fusing the two. For years the government has enhanced things like milk, salt and baby formula. Now they are poised to take us all in to a healthy future. The Foods of tomorrow will be laced with nanotechnology to fight diseases and improve quality and perhaps even quantity of life. Others will be genetically engineered to increase things like protein content, antioxidant, vitamin and nutrient percentages.
Tomorrow’s Foods may be just what we are searching for, but research still needs to be done to look at things like safety and effectiveness. For now, don’t look for these stealthy items on the shelves. Tomorrow’s Foods won’t be available until tomorrow.

The Future of Natural FOOD May Not Be Natural

http://www.nytimes.com/2008/01/15/business/15drug.html

A clinical trial of a widely used cholesterol drug (Zetia, which is in Vytorin) has raised questions both about the medicine’s effectiveness and about the behavior of the pharmaceutical companies that conducted the study, cardiologists said Monday.

As if that wasn’t bad enough:

In a press release, Merck and Schering said that not only did Zetia fail to slow the accumulation of fatty plaque in the arteries, it actually seemed to contribute to plaque formation — although by such a small amount that the finding could have been a result of chance.

It amazes me how all of the ‘alternative’ products that are out there to improve your health, many of which are effective, are not able to get any kind of official FDA approval. However, the huge drug companies can push out garbage like Vytorin and millions of people trust the drug companies and the FDA and take it and just get sicker.
I wonder if the FDA will ever wake up and start reviewing products that can actually improve people’s health instead of doing whatever the drug companies say only to find problems with the drugs after they have harmed people.
Oh, by the way, it gets better

the companies had deliberately sat on their findings from the study

Is this big tobacco all over again?

FDA Cholesterol Drug Ineffective? Maybe eating better is a good idea after all.

WHY DO I CRAVE SUGAR and CAFFEINE?

Many of us have sugar cravings. They can control us and our eating habits. One of the reason we crave sugar or caffeine is because of low adrenal function.

The adrenals are hormone glands that sit above the kidneys. They provide energy in the form of adrenalin. Stress can off set this healthy process. When we’re stressed the adrenals secrete adrenalin as if we were preparing to fight a predator, depleting the body’s energy reserves. We can be left with little or no energy and fatigue.
That’s when we crave sugar or caffeine to force the adrenals to give the energy boost.

What can you do to stop sugar and caffeine cravings?

Sugar and caffeine cravings are like drug additions. They are real and are really hard to break. You can try gently cleansing the body internally and/or try adrenal supplements to end the cycle. After cleansing you’ll find that your energy level will likely improve along with mood and the power to make change.

Cleansing helps to change the kinds of food the body craves. It then becomes easier to replace junk foods in the diet with nutritious foods. A healthy body will crave healthy foods.
The next step is to begin replacing the high sugar and caffeine drinks with low-carb drinks, tea or even better purified H2O. This can help to keep down cravings and weight gain. After 30 Days of cleansing regularly (once a week), dietary cravings should be cured and healthy habits should come more naturally.

For sugar cravings the general rule is that the more refined carbohydrates you eat, the more you crave. The easiest way not to crave is to not eat ANY sweets or refined carbohydrates, including white flour, rice and pasta. Increasing protein intake can be very helpful too. For some people simply adding more protein to their diets cuts down their sugar cravings tremendously.
