Most fast foods are so high in calories, saturated fats, and sodium that they not only make us fatter, but they also cause the build-up of fat in our arteries, causing heart attacks, strokes, and high blood pressure.
The Worst
The average double cheeseburger, with large fries and a large soda, contains approximately 1,800-2,000 calories, and approximately 100 grams of fat, of which almost 40 grams are saturated fat. It also contains approximately 1,500 mg of sodium. So, for most people, that amounts to the number of calories that they would consume in one day and three to four times the amount of fat and salt that they would consume in any given day.
Two slices of pizza with extra cheese and/or meat contain 750-800 calories, 35-40 grams of fat (15 grams of saturated fat), and 2,000 mg of sodium.
Fried fish sandwiches contain approximately 700 calories, 40 grams of fat (15 grams of saturated fat), and 1,200 mg of sodium.
Nachos with cheese and sour cream contain 1,200-1,300 calories, 80 grams of fat (25 grams of saturated fat), and 2,500 mg of sodium.
A chocolate milkshake contains almost 800 calories and 40 grams of fat, of which 25 grams are saturated.
A large coke contains 200 calories.
Large fries contain 600+ calories, 20 grams of fat, and 10-12 grams of saturated fat.
Fried chicken or a fried chicken wrap with cheese and sauce contains 700 calories and 44 grams of fat (12 grams of saturated fat), and 2,000 mg of sodium.
The Best
Choose a single hamburger without cheese or sauce. Add lettuce, tomato, and onion, with or without ketchup or non fat mayo, and skip the fries and order a diet soda.
Order a grilled chicken sandwich without the mayo, or better yet, a grilled chicken Caesar salad with fat-tree herb vinaigrette dressing (on the side).
A good choice is a small vegetable chilli without cheese.
Soft chicken taco without sauce.
Pizza without extra cheese or meat; add fresh veggies to increase the nutrition content.
Order a large salad plain, or add grilled chicken, and add fat-tree dressing (on the side).
Roast beef sandwich without the sauce.
If you must have fries, order the smallest bag and either split with a friend or toss it in the trash when you are finished less than one-half of the bag.

A common perception among people is that a healthy lifestyle is something which is difficult to follow and it requires a lot of patience and self control. For most people dieting involves counting calories and having a check on each bite you take irrelevant of personal likes and dislikes. It is a closed short term process for rapid weight loss which is utterly unrealistic and cannot be enjoyed on a long term basis. This is half the reason why people quit dieting so easily. Lack of flexibility, dissatisfaction, feeling of deprivation and strict rules make it difficult for people to actually put it to practice.
Very few diets talk about success in the bigger picture. You will find few diet which focus on health rather than diet, offering shopping tips for effective weightless, emphasizing natural weight loss to starvation, dining strategies, different alternatives to add flavor to food in a health conscious manner, etc. Some diets are unrealistic to the extent of being unsafe and a risk to health. They don’t talk about how to handle or deal with our cravings and hunger in an effective manner. Instead they promote shunning away from these natural feelings. Ultimately people lose their confidence and quit the whole regime.
Each time you deprive yourselves in the name of diet, weight loss becomes strenuous and more difficult. This leads to frustration and discouragement. You end up giving in to temptation, unable to handle the pressure, and eat more. You get caught in a vicious circle which does nothing to help you. In fact you might just end up harming yourself or even develop an eating disorder. Deliberate deprivation only leads to unhealthy lifestyle and you end up defeating the cause for your diet.
Diets cause people to listen to body signals and eat according to their system’s requirement. You ignore signs of appetite and hunger and the need to be satisfied. Hence your body becomes deprived resulting in feelings of low self esteem. And when you quit, you suffer from guilt and defeat and thus once again you go back to dieting. You body is not a switch to easily adapt to this on and off dieting patterns. The body becomes weak without proper nutrition and energy and a balanced exercising regime.
Surveys show that only 5% of the people who diet are successful. This proves that dieting is neither a sure shot nor the right and the effective way to reduce weight or lead a healthy life. Diet slows down your metabolism, so when you stop your diet, your body is inefficient in metabolizing normal food quantities and hence you put in more weight. This is the reason why 95% of diets fail. It is impossible to live on the diet mode for life depriving oneself of delicious food and starving. So instead of suffering from frustrations, hunger, deprivation and guilt, try to inculcate healthy food habits which will work out on a long term basis. This will prove to be a realistic and an achievable target.

When you’re learning about something new, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed by the sheer amount of relevant information available. This informative article should help you focus on the central points.
If you’re feeling sluggish, or you think you’re always full and the food has settled in your stomach, undigested. If you think you’re fat and need to lose weight. And if you think that you’ve ingested more than the allowed preservatives and additives into your body and your liver’s starting to show symptoms of abuse, then it’s time for you to go on a Detox program.
Detox or detoxification is the process of neutralizing or eliminating toxins from the body. Detox plans may be in different forms and ways - from regular exercise to body scrubs and spa massages, to yoga and meditation. But the simplest and the most common perhaps is to go on a detox diet.
A detox diet is a program that minimizes the chemicals ingested into the body by going for organic food. It highlights food like vitamins and antioxidants that the body needs for detoxification. It also involves taking in of food that will aid in the elimination of toxins like high fiber food and water. It generally suggests a high intake of fresh vegetables, fruits, beans, nuts and lots of fluids, while cutting down on caffeine, alcohol, yeast and sugars.
So why go for a detox diet? If you’re a regular fast food chain eater, you’ve probably ingested many fat-soluble chemicals contained in the French fries, cheeseburgers, twisters and soft drinks you’ve consumed. An ‘overload’ of these chemicals in the body can lead to illness and conditions like liver malfunction, kidney problems, hormonal imbalance, nutritional deficiencies and inefficient metabolism. And the most common symptoms of these illnesses are the usual fatigue, poor skin and low tolerance to pain.
By going on a detox diet, people would have improved energy, clearer and fairer skin, a regular bowel movement, improved metabolism and digestion, increased concentration. Generally, it spells wellness and a better well-being.
A word of caution… though anyone is allowed to take on a detox diet, pregnant women or those who are nursing are cautioned not to go on such plans as they need the necessary nutrient for nursing. And unless recommended by a doctor, people with anemia, eating disorders, heart disease, low immunity, low blood pressure, ulcers, cancer, the underweight or those suffering from alcohol or drug dependency should try on a detox diet. Furthermore, such detox diet programs should be properly planned with the doctor and a nutritionist.
Other Things You Need to Know
Side effects may occur within the first few days of starting the detox diet. There’s headache and a general feeling of weakness as the body is adjusting to the change in food intake. So it is recommended to start your diet plan gradually or on Fridays when you won’t be doing much physical activity or requiring much energy. Others may experience diarrhea as the body eliminates the toxins, so take care not to be dehydrated. Drink plenty of water.
Take note that such detox diet programs should not be done for a long time. They are normally recommended to be done at least one to two times a year, and should be done during the warm months.
If you’re thinking of getting started, make sure you consult a doctor or a nutritionist. Read up on detox diets and seek advice from the experts. Remember: Too much is bad. After all, you’re doing it to improve your health, not ruin it!

If you have never thought of yourself as an athlete or very athletic, I urge you to get over that now. Especially if you have ever used that as an excuse to dodge exercise or in any way avoid moving your body. Like declining to take part in recreation, games, dancing, any exercise or movement, because you believe you are not athletic, and will not do well.
If you fall into this category, from now on I want you to think of yourself as an athlete. Because you are, no matter how big a klutz or how non-athletic you think you are.
You are an athlete and I encourage you to treat yourself like an athlete. And that means getting regular physical exercise. Training, working out, practice, drilling, repetitions, whatever you want to call it. Dedicated athletes never miss their workouts, their practice. Follow that pattern and you will see fat melt from your body, I promise you. It is one of the most effective fat loss techniques I know of.
I have personally gotten remarkable fat loss results from thinking of myself as an athlete, and treating myself that way. In fact, I think of and treat myself like an elite athlete, performing at Olympian levels of skill. That is my personal choice and it works spectacularly for me. Thinking that way and taking care of myself that way, you can bet I never miss my daily exercise, and I do not.
For the better part of my life I thought of myself as not very athletic. I never considered myself an athlete by the time I graduated from high school. I played some Little League, played football one year in high school and enjoyed various sports, but I never became particularly skilled at any of them. So I bought into the absurd notion that I was not an athlete, and believed that for many years. No more.
It helps to understand just what an athlete is: somebody who has the necessary abilities to participate in physical exercise, especially in competitive situations such as games, races, and matches.
I urge you to carefully read that definition again, and open your mind as you do. Notice that first half: somebody who has the necessary abilities to participate in physical exercise. That includes everyone, including people who are in wheelchairs, and amputees and other physically challenged folks who climb mountains, play tennis, snow ski, participate in track and field, play basketball, water ski and every other recreation and sport you can possibly think of.
The big point is that a person who is totally paralyzed and can only wiggle their left thumb is participating in physical exercise when they wiggle their left thumb. They qualify as an athlete. And so do you, whatever your physical shape or level of athletic skill.
The second half of the definition is where many people get hung up, especially folks who do not think of themselves as athletic. Those who might tend to sit on the sidelines and not participate in activities involving physical movement. It says, especially in competitive situations such as games, races, and matches.
Now, that is what an athlete is, many people say, those who compete in games, races, matches, contests of athletic skill. But that is a very narrow and limiting definition of an athlete. A person, say, who enjoys jogging or running, and runs or jogs for the pure pleasure of it, and chooses not participate in races is no less an athlete than runners who race.
Same with a bicyclist, dancer, archer, weight lifter, horseback rider, skier, or any other person who does not care to compete. They are still athletes. Not sort of athletes. Or not really athletes. They are athletes. And so are you and anybody else who moves in any way.
Absorb that. No matter what you do or how you do it, if you move in any way, you are an athlete.
Now the final hang up to rid yourself of is anything that has you saying things like, okay, but I am not very good at it. Get rid of that. Stop judging yourself and your performance and instead just enjoy. Do not buy into the absurd and dehumanizing nonsense of comparing yourself to anyone else athletically.
You are an athlete. And athletes get daily exercise, in whatever way they enjoy. Do the same and you will lose fat and get fit healthfully, permanently, guaranteed.

Just as it took time to gain weight you must understand that it takes time to lose weight. While this process is usually slow, there are several “secrets” that you can use to achieve fat loss quickly.
First, weight loss supplements are garbage. The fact of the matter is that no supplement can make you lose weight without being used in conjunction with exercise. If that’s the case, how do we know it wasn’t the exercise by itself that produced the results?
The truth is that we can’t know for a fact, but since neither I or you has lost weight using these gimmick supplements it’s safe to say they do not work. So what does work?
Honestly, the only thing that can make you lose weight is eating the right food. If you aren’t eating natural foods, you will gain wait. It doesn’t get simpler than that. The sad fact is that we as humans try to make the process more complex and harder than it has to be.
Another important addition to your weight loss plan will need to be a daily exercise routine. Yes, that means doing some type of activity every single day. No that does not mean that walking up 6 flights of stairs counts as your exercise. Your routine should be roughly 30min. to one hour in length and make you slightly out of breath.
Regular exercise will also stimulate fat burning hormones and enlighten your mood. This can do wonders for people that are depressed because of their weight gain.
People with a family history of heart disease need to be especially careful to include exercise in their daily routine since obesity and being overweight drastically increases your chances of having a heart attack and stroke. Do not take your fatness for granted, it is a signal that things aren’t ok inside the body as well!
You should start your weight loss journey with making a commitment to find a healthy diet plan and stick to it daily. Supplement your healthy eating with daily mild to moderate exercise and you will begin to notice changes little by little.
Remember, weight loss is meant to be an enduring, yet easy process that starts with making the right decisions every single day. Do not try to look at how long you will have to go without eating certain foods. Merely, make good decisions one day at a time and refuse to stress when you slip up…just keep moving forward!

The problems associated with taking weight loss pills to lose weight naturally are numerous. Unfortunately many people do not realise the problems with weight loss pills so this article will point out the dangers to help you decide what is right for you. If you are thinking about diet pills to help you lose weight naturally, then read on.
There are various pills available for you purchase online. Some are good but many do not point out the hidden dangers to your health. It is important to understand that any diet pill you decide on taking, should only be used in conjunction with a healthy diet of vitamin rich food. Taking diet pills before you eat can be hazardous to your health as they prevent you from eating enough food to keep your body functioning correctly.
Never take more than the recommended dose. This is where some people think they can beat the system but taking more diet pills than they need to. Follow the instructions exactly to ensure that you do not create any health problems.
Be aware that many of the weight loss pills will over time make you addicted to them. Check out the tablets and do some research online in forums to see what other people are saying about them. Becoming addictive to these diet pills will cause huge mental and health issues for you.
Some pills will stop you from feeling hungry, but it is recommended you choose diet pills to be taken after eating and not before. Eating less of course is what you need to do to lose weight, but unless your body gets the right amount of calories and protein it will have the reverse effect. Eat and then take the diet pills some 30 to 40 minutes later.
Taking diet pills that stop you from feeling hungry and therefore go without meals will leave you with no energy or enthusiasm to do anything.
Prolonged taking of some diet pills will eventually slow down your metabolism, and if this happens you will soon put that weight back on.
If you are thinking about using weight loss pills then it is best to consult with your Pharmacist first and get their advice. You can also talk with experts in the field of weight loss and take what they tell you into consideration. Just make sure you understand the problems involved with some diet pills before starting on your diet.
There are some very good weight loss pills available and many are better than others. So, when choosing your weight loss pills do some research beforehand to ensure you know what it is you are taking, understand any dangers involved, and get advice from the experts first.

The variety of food available today is so much greater than it was many years ago. There really isn’t much limit to what you can purchase as far as food goes but unfortunately with this wide range of food products also came the increased amount of additives, preservatives and sugars within our foods. The amount of ‘junk’ food available has increased significantly over recent years also and with that the problem of obesity has also increased.
Although there are many ‘low fat’ foods on the supermarket shelves, this ‘low fat’ labels itself can be quite deceiving. Often the ingredients that are used to replace the fatty elements of a product will contain more calories than the original fat. So if you are eating foods labeled ‘low fat’ and still can’t seem to lose weight then this is the reason. Let’s face it, the only real way to lose weight it to eat healthy foods and exercise regularly.
Pre-packed weight loss meals are also not that healthy a solution for losing weight. Although they may be convenient and alleviate the hassle of purchasing healthy ingredients, these foods may contain added preservatives that are really not that good for your health.
Here are my two simple ideas that helped me to lose weight.
1. Create a healthy, nutritious eating plan. You can still have some of the foods you enjoy but limit them to once a week or once a fortnight and definitely not every day. If you need to purchase a good healthy eating book that will give you recipes and let you know which foods are best for your body.
I know what you’re thinking right now….. A healthy diet sounds good but haven’t you tried that a thousand times before and just haven’t succeeded? The reason most people cannot change to a healthy diet is because when they change their eating habits they just feel hungry all the time. That is where Hoodia is a life saver. Hoodia diet pills are an appetite suppressant and stop the hunger feeling. That is all that they do, just stop you from feeling hungry and therefore making it so much easier to stick to a healthy diet.
2. Create an exercise plan. Now this doesn’t have to be a strenuous exercise plan like you see on shows like ‘The Biggest Loser’. You can just start by walking for 20 minutes a day. If you can’t manage every day at least try to walk three or four times a week. Surely 20 minutes a day isn’t too much time to take out of your schedule for the sake of your health.
Once you start getting into a walking routine and start feeling a little more energetic then you can maybe build up your exercise and take on something that will increase your heart rate a little more such as bike riding or aerobics.
So I’m not suggesting any big fad diet, no carbohydrates, no sugar or any of those types of diets that come and go. The best way to lose weight is a healthy diet and exercise; unfortunately this can sometimes be the hardest way to lose weight or at least in the beginning before you get into a good routine.
If you can get rid of that hunger feeling by using Hoodia Gordonii diet pills then you will have a massive head start and it will make the job a whole lot easier. Hoodia has had scientific testing and clinical testing and has proven to be very safe and very effective for weight loss and has no side effects. It is also a completely natural product and so is good for your health.
If you can’t stick to a diet due to hunger then give Hoodia Gordonii a try, it really is worth it.

In November, 2007 the British Medical Journal published a new piece of meta-research into the relative effectiveness of Orlistat, Meridia and Acomplia. The difficulty with conventional research is that each individual study usually only involves a few hundred volunteers. Although these studies have to be “statistically significant”, i.e. it must be reasonable to scale up the results so that they will offer a reasonable chance of being replicated in the community at large, one study cannot be anything more than an indicator. To get the best results, you need to take a number of published clinical trials and reanalyse the data to determine whether there are trends. This is what a meta-researcher does.
In this instance, the team analysed the data from thirty clinical trials representing 19,619 participants. To be included in the reanalysis, each trial had to last at least one year, the treatment with the medication had to be in conjunction with lifestyle changes to diet and encourage physical exercise, and follow the best practice methods of being randomised, double blind and placebo-controlled. Thus, the data covers a reasonable period of time (the longer the period of time, the more people are likely to drop out of trials — in this instance, an average of about 35% of the participants dropped out), and a more significant number of people.
The participants taking Acomplia had the highest range of weight loss at 4.1kg to 5.3kg. It also reduced the levels of high density lipoprotein cholesterol and triglycerides, improved blood pressure, and in patients with diabetes, gave better glycaemic control. But Acomplia was associated with a risk of anxiety, irritability and depression in about 6% of participants.
One of the factors that can affect the reliability of this meta-analysis process is that research journals may prefer to publish research with positive outcomes or only reports with positive outcomes are referred to journals for publication. This is called the funnel plot. Some pharmaceutical companies are accused of suppressing the publication of reports in which the outcomes are unfavourable to their products. In this instance, this did not appear to be a problem with the Acomplia findings. However, almost all thirty trials were funded by pharmaceutical companies. This may indicate the possibility of bias when the results prove positive. Secondly, the majority of the participants were relatively young and caucasian. This makes more general extrapolation of the results to other population groups more unreliable.
The National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE) has recently changed its recommendation to accept Acomplia as being within National Health Service guidelines. The relevant rule for acceptance as an anti-obesity medication is that patients should consistently be able to lose at least 5% of their initial body weight after three months. That Acomplia has now satisfied this performance criterion is an endorsement of the medication’s effectiveness.
Let us be clear — a 5% average may include people who failed completely and put weight on because they resisted change to their diet and refused exercise. If people cannot reduce some weight through their own efforts, giving them a pill like Acomplia is not going to help. A 5% average may therefore include some people who have lost between 10% and 20%. Given that some 35% of participants in the clinical trials lacked the motivation to continue, that means that 65% were sufficiently encouraged by the performance of their medication to continue to the end of the agreed period. Add in the significant improvement among diabetics, and Acomplia begins to look even better. However, given the risk of psychological side effects, it is perhaps always wise to take Acomplia when you are in a family environment or you have friends who can be relied on to monitor your mood.
So the moral of the research alongside NICE’s change of policy is that if you are sufficiently motivated to lose weight by changing your diet and exercising more, Acomplia will significantly improve your chances of losing weight and maintaining that reduction over time.

Many people are very sceptical of the suggestion that water can play very effective role in helping them achieve weight loss. Very few people realize that a large proportion of our body is water. Naturally it plays a very important part in our existence. 75% of the lean muscle tissues are water, over 80% of blood is water, body fat and bones account for over 20% of water each. Is it surprising then that water plays a very important role in how our bodies function?
Of course, drinking water alone is not going to help you lose weight. If you desire to lose weight in a gradual but sure way, eating right and drinking right are the two major components of the natural weight loss method.
Remember that “bad” fats are the main culprits causing excess weight – eat “good fats” that provide essential fatty acids; eat Salmon, Mackerel, Herrings, and Sardines. They help regulate blood pressure, prevent blood clotting and lower risk of heart failure.
Good proteins help you in suppressing cravings for food. They are essential in building muscles. Low fat milk products such as skimmed milk, yoghurt, cottage cheese, and fish are “good“ proteins.
Carbohydrates such as beans, vegetables, fruits, and whole grains are consumed by the body slowly and hence they are natural hunger-suppressants; they are also moderate on fats and calories.
Eat adequate fiber food. Good fiber foods do not contribute much of calories and they are filling. They thus help in suppressing hunger. Moreover fiber does not get digested by the body and while passing through the body it attaches to some of the fats and proteins that we eat; thus they are taken out of the system without being digested! Apples, figs, broccoli, strawberries, brown rice, beans, bran and nuts are good fiber foods.
Water plays two important roles in helping you lose weight. Cravings for food are felt when the body dehydrates; if water is consumed in reasonable and adequate measure it suppresses hunger pangs. Liver provides stored fats for energy; water helps metabolism allowing kidneys to flush out waste. Many people will find it surprising that drinking cold water can burn the extra fat in the body; if you drink ice cold water it uses over 60 calories a day from the body – thus the body has to burn over 420 calories a week to raise the temperature of the ice cold water to the body temperature. What a way to beat that excess fat!
As we see here water plays an important role in you lose weight; it is a natural appetite suppressant, it helps in dieting and generally a major component in natural weight loss practice.

The best way to lose weight is to focus on an effective and natural weight loss plan that involves a reduction in the intake of calories and an increase in physical activity - amazingly most people choose to ignore this advice. You would think this simple set of instructions should be easy to follow but currently a massive 35 percent of Americans are overweight and continuing to get larger, and they aren’t the only ones around the world!
The truth is that it is easier to maintain a healthy weight range than it is to lose excess pounds once they’ve been put on, and the heavier you are, the harder that losing weight becomes. This is something that all of us know deep down: that if we do not watch what we eat and how much we exercise, then we are dooming ourselves to a fatty future.
Even if you have lost weight with a calorie controlled diet, it is quite often the case that you are soon reverting back to your old eating and non-exercising habits and therefore watching those just lost pounds go straight back on again. Losing weight through a natural weight loss program is possible though and it can be done before you get to a stage where people are staring at you in the street or you’re experiencing health problems because of your excess weight.
The importance of maintaining the correct weight is more than just for attractive looks, especially when you consider that the number of health problems related to weight and obesity is continuing to grow. Natural weight loss is largely about the food you eat so stick to a diet which is low in fat, includes complex carbohydrates, is high in fiber and contains a moderate amount of protein. A meal such as this would be something like a baked potato (complex carbohydrate), vegetables (for fiber) and a lean cut of meat (protein).
Unfortunately, dietary fat contains higher amounts of calories than ordinary food and when consumed will be converted to body fat more readily. Despite the number of either low fat or zero fat foods on the market, American people continue to put on weight, but there is a very good reason for this. The misconception is that if you are eating something fat-free then you won’t be adding extra fat to your body but all food contains calories, just not always in the form of fat. Where this theory goes wrong is with overweight people who think that if it’s fat free they can eat more of it, instead of eating a healthy snack.
A natural weight loss diet shouldn’t be viewed as a diet in the traditional sense - i.e. something that it pursued for a few weeks to reach a desired weight goal. A natural weight loss program is something that should be carried out for as long you are on two feet and wishing to feel good about yourself.
