Many of us are not very eager to put ourselves through vigorous exercise. Furthermore, with today’s staggering economy, many of us do not want to pay the costly gym memberships. However, exercising has its rewards. We not only gain health benefits, but we can also reduce our stress levels and improve our quality of life. So what are some of the ways to keep fit this summer without breaking the bank?
For those of us who are not big fans of team sports and of spending money at the gym, the summer time might be the perfect time to engage in other physically rewarding activities. There are many different fun activities that you can engage in during the summer time. Badminton, dodge ball, football, and basketball are just some of the standard fun games that you can play without spending lots of money. Now if you want to get really creative, you can set up a fun obstacle course in your back yard using stuff that you already have at home. For instance, you can place a broom in between two chairs so that a person has to crawl underneath. You can place hula hoops on the ground and kids will have to hop through the hoops. Another part of the obstacle course can be throwing a ball into a big basket. You can also go with something more traditional such as carrying an object on a spoon (carry a water balloon). The possibilities are endless as long as you have the time to invest in the setting up of the course.
However, the best part about all of these activities is that you can get the whole family involved, even friends if you wish. These little games end up being so much fun that you hardly even realize that you are exercising.

Snacking has been an important aspect of my weight loss.Answering the question, “What do you eat?” and attempting to provide some guidance to those asking for assistance, it is necessary to restate:
-My success was achieved with approximately 1,400 to 1,500 calories a day with moderate exercise.
-My snacks were usually kept between 100-150 calories so that total snack calories were approximately 300 daily for my three snacks
-Three snacks a day seem to be the choice of many of us who have experienced long-term success.
Here are a few things you may find helpful-
Snacks are as important as the meals we eat; sometimes even more so. Snacks keep our metabolism activated and working to burn calories. They help maintain a “full” feeling, which is beneficial when instituting a successful eating plan and aids in reducing any hunger we may begin to feel prior to our afternoon or evening meal. This additional time allows us to thoughtfully, consciously and healthily prepare our meals without grabbing an unhealthy food, stopping at a fast food restaurant or convenience store on the way home and helps us refrain from tasting many small bites of your afternoon or evening meal as you are preparing it. Remember, those calories add up as well.
Again, these are just samples; pick up packages, read the labels and make your own choices. This is how you will learn to not only broaden your food exposure to new possibilities but you are learning how to change your lifestyle!
* Eat slowly and purposefully
*Enjoy the flavor and the experience of the food you are eating
*Chew your food thoroughly 10-20 times, not 2-3; it takes approximately 20 minutes for your brain to realize your stomach is full. In addition, the saliva aids in digestion and helps you feel full.
* Remember, snacks are not meals; they must be limited but they are necessary and crucial to our success.
One of my favorites: Pop a 100 calorie bag of Kettle Korn, open it carefully and drop in 1-2 TBSP of grated parmesan cheese and some freshly ground black pepper. Close the bag, shake and then enjoy. I eat each kernel individually and it is a flavorful snack. I eat this when I am craving something crunchy after my final meal as my end of the day snack.
Please be sure to journal everything; it is the only true way to know the total calories you are consuming. It is also important to make an entry as to how you are feeling, i.e. happy, sad, lonely, angry ~ in time, you should be able to see a pattern between your emotions and your eating habits. Take a quick moment and think about all the “quick fix” solutions to weight loss out there and how they always seem to fall short of the expectations you have put on them. How much have you spent on such infomercials? Twenty, twenty,…$100?
It’s actually downright insulting for these snake-oil salesmen to push their products on you! However, they are so well put together! It’s really a psychological game and these companies play it so well.
So now it’s time to get past all the infomercials and fad diets out there and talk about the cold, hard truth behind weight loss, abdominal reduction and fat burning. No gossip, just the science behind what we all need.
First, we need to address the important principle of structuring your workouts. In order to stimulate fat-loss, especially from your stomach, you need to stop wasting so much of your time doing worthless crunches and in the hopes of “spot-reducing” your abdominal fat.

If you do an intense workout consisting of these multi-joint exercises, you will reap an amazing benefit. During this 48-72 hour post exercise period your body will actually be flooded with fat-burning and muscle building hormones!
So, how do you do it? How do you accomplish this avalanche of fat-burning hormones? Easy, you use exercises like squats, lunges, deadlifts, presses, pulls, AND your favorite ab exercises together. However, your priority is placed on the exercises that are more intense and require more concentration.
This boils down to taking minimal rest periods and ignoring your gym friends’ gossip. You need to be intense! Keep track of your rest times and tell your buddies to meet you for food after your amazing fat burning workout!
Second, we need to eat for fat burning. Your nutrition literally has the power to make you burn fat. Of coarse, the exact opposite is true, food can also be the cause of your fat gain just as easily. The key is to use science in your favor to determine which foods should be eaten to accomplish your fat loss.

Increase in calories always lead to an increase in weight. A lot of people exercise a lot but still they look fat. Most of them get frustrated and stop exercising, while others keep on exercising but with no good results. What can be the reason for this? The only answer to this problem is that you are not burning enough amounts of calories. Your exercise is fine but the problem is with the amount of food you are eating. Exercising can make you exhausted and you need food to restore your strength.
You can reduce the amount of calories by two way, first is to take in less calories and the second is to burn more calories. Taking less amount of food can have a major impact on a person’s health and that’s not recommended at all. The only option left is to burn more calories than you take in. this can be done by one way only and that is to do more exercise. Its not difficult all you need to do is spend a bit more time on exercising and that’s it. Let’s suppose that you exercise daily for 25 minutes, now increase this time to 40 minutes. If you exercise for 4 days now increase it to six days. You don’t need to eat less only work more. If you still want to increase the burning of calories than you should do the following.

3. Give at a couple of hours between your workout sessions. This will give you the much needed strength.

Many people will try just about anything to lose weight as quickly as possible, including fasting for weight loss. This is why there are so many fad diets on the market and why this billion dollar industry is making many people rich off of our insecurities, impatience and lack of understanding. When you watch television you’ll notice that there are just too many advertisements of so many kinds of weight loss systems that promise a miracle cure to lose weight. Naturally, when we see the thin models we feel even more insecure.
Fasting for weight loss is not something new; the concept of fasting is as old as the Bible. But, is it effective for weight loss? And is it effective a long term solution? Well, the answer is both yes and no. Yes, it will cause you to lose weight because anyone who does not eat for a period of time will lose weight no matter what their body type is. A person would normally burn 2,000 calories a day without exercise, just by doing their normal day to day activities.
When a person goes on a fast there are no calories taken in your system, but you still burn the ones stored in your body. This however makes your body go into a “survival mode” where your metabolism slows down to maximize the stored fat in your body in order to survive.
There is no question that fasting is good for a short period of time. It can give our digestive system a break and help to detoxify our system of all different types of impurities. But, fasting for longer periods of time is dangerous and may lead to serious medical complications and others like anorexia. Fasting is advised not for weight loss, but for a periodical cleansing of our system. The weight loss that people experience during fasting is just a side effect of the cleansing process, but must not be the goal.
This is why fasting for weight loss is not effective. Your body’s metabolism slows down, and whatever weight loss you experience will return and may even double if you are not careful. Since the body’s system has been cleansed, you will need less food to do the same activities that you normally do. But if you eat the same amount of food before the fast, then you are more than likely to gain weight, and even double your size because your metabolism has slowed down.
Fasting for weight loss is not effective in the long run because it is not designed for this purpose. There are much better diet plans available that can help you lose weight and become more healthy.
